Air Prep Components
(Filters, Regulators, Lubricators)
Compressed air that hasn’t been filtered, regulated, and lubricated will kill your pneumatic components fast. Proper air preparation — commonly called “FRL” for filter, regulator, lubricator — is what separates a pneumatic system that runs for decades from one that breaks down every six months. Dewald stocks a full line of filter/regulator/lubricator components, air pressure gauges, quick-exhaust valves, and pneumatic accessories for industrial and OEM applications across Northern Indiana. Call or stop by our Mishawaka counter and our sales team will help you size the right air prep for your flow, pressure, and contamination profile.
Air prep (FRL) is the three-stage conditioning of compressed air before it reaches pneumatic equipment: a filter removes water and particulate, a regulator controls pressure, and a lubricator adds a fine oil mist to keep cylinders and valves running smoothly. Skipping air prep is the #1 cause of premature pneumatic component failure.

FAQs
What does FRL mean?
FRL stands for Filter, Regulator, Lubricator — the three components that prepare compressed air for use by pneumatic equipment. The filter removes water and contamination, the regulator controls pressure, and the lubricator adds a fine mist of oil to keep pneumatic components running smoothly.
Do I need a lubricator in my compressed air system?
It depends on the pneumatic components you’re feeding. Traditional pneumatic cylinders and tools benefit from lubrication. Many modern components — especially stainless-steel and food-grade — are designed to run oil-free and should NOT receive lubricated air. Ask us about your specific components.
How often should I change my compressed air filter element?
Typical industrial filters are changed every 6–12 months, or sooner if pressure drop exceeds manufacturer recommendations. Harsh environments may require more frequent changes.
Does Dewald sell air pressure gauges?
Yes — panel mount, back mount, liquid-filled, and stainless steel gauges in a full range of pressure ranges.
